We inspect the switchboard, metering and the areas of work, test where it's useful, and flag anything unsafe we find on the spot rather than saving it for the quote. Free within 100 km of Caringbah.
Design & itemised quote
You get an itemised ex-GST quote — circuits, protection, fittings, switchboard work and labour on separate lines — with options priced where there's a genuine choice, like LED retrofit tiers or staging a rewire.
Installation
Work is scheduled to keep your power on as much as possible; outages are planned with you in advance, circuits are tested as they're completed, and the site is left clean, labelled and safe at the end of each day.
Testing, certification & handover
Every circuit is tested and the results recorded, the switchboard schedule is updated and labelled, and you receive the Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) required for licensed electrical work in NSW.
Optional maintenance
Scheduled programmes cover test and tag, exit and emergency lighting checks, smoke alarm testing and thermal checks on switchboards — set to intervals that suit the site and keep your records audit-ready.
Compliance & licensing
Bioni Security & Electrical holds NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 35018C, and wiring work is designed and installed with reference to the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules. A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is issued for licensed electrical work as NSW requires — your formal record that the work was done and tested by a licensed contractor.
Because we also hold NSW Security Master Licence 000108088, electrical work that touches security systems — recorder supplies, lock power, gate operator circuits — doesn't get split between two contractors with a gap in accountability. RCD protection, safe isolation and testing before livening are standard practice on every job, not extras.
A recent job
A joinery workshop in Kirrawee
A joinery in Kirrawee bought a second-hand panel saw and edgebander, then discovered their unit still ran on the original 1980s switchboard — no RCDs, no spare ways and a three-phase supply already near its limit. We upgraded the board with RCD protection across the circuits, ran new three-phase sub-circuits to both machines with local isolators, and tidied a decade of ad-hoc wiring into labelled circuits.
While on site we replaced the workshop's fluorescent battens with high-bay LEDs and added exit and emergency lighting to suit the layout. The machines were commissioned, every circuit tested and recorded, and the owner received the CCEW plus an updated board schedule. The workshop lost one working day for the changeover instead of the week they'd budgeted for.
What moves the price
Electrical quotes are itemised ex-GST — circuits, protection, fittings and labour each on their own line. What moves the number:
- Switchboard condition — a modern board with spare ways takes new circuits cheaply; an old board full of rewirable fuses often needs upgrading first
- Circuit runs — distance from the board, ceiling and wall access, and whether cabling can travel through accessible space or has to be chased in
- Single versus three-phase — three-phase supplies, machinery circuits and their protection are a step up in hardware and testing
- Fitting count and grade — the number of points, and the gap between builder-grade and architectural fittings
- Height and access — high-bay lighting or work over racking can need an EWP and out-of-hours windows
- Compliance scope — exit/emergency lighting, smoke alarms and test-and-tag programmes are priced by device count and test interval
If the switchboard needs work before anything else can happen, we say so at the site visit — not as a variation halfway through the job.

- Yes. Licensed electrical work is issued with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) as required in NSW.

- What makes one electrical job cost more than another?
- Mostly the switchboard's condition and how far and how hard the cable runs are. Old boards without spare capacity or RCD protection add a step many quotes bury — ours lists it as its own ex-GST line so you can see it.
- How long do typical jobs take?
- Small jobs — extra circuits, lighting swaps, smoke alarms — are usually done in a single visit. A switchboard upgrade is typically a day with a planned outage; rewires and fit-outs are staged so you keep power throughout.
- Can you do the electrical and security work in one visit?
- Yes — that's the point of one licensed team. Recorder power, lock supplies, gate circuits and the data cabling are done alongside the switchboard work, on one quote with one certification trail.
- Is DIY electrical work legal in NSW?
- No — beyond plugging things in and changing lamps, electrical wiring work in NSW must be done by a licensed electrician, and unlicensed work carries real penalties and can void insurance. If someone's already had a go, we'll test it, make it safe and certify what's compliant.
- Do you provide a warranty on electrical work?
- Workmanship is guaranteed and fittings carry their manufacturers' warranties. Every licensed job also comes with a CCEW — your formal record that the installation was tested and compliant at handover.
