An automatic gate is an electrical installation and a security device in one, and we're licensed for both. The same Caringbah-based crew runs the 240 V supply, sets up the operator, fits safety edges and photocells, and ties the gate into your intercom, keypad, ANPR or access control — no coordinating an electrician, a gate company and a security installer on one driveway. How we work
Free site visit
We measure the opening, check slope and drainage, look at where power can come from and how far the trench has to run, and talk through how the gate will actually be used day to day. Free within 100 km of Caringbah.
Design & itemised quote
You get a recommendation on gate type and operator with an itemised ex-GST quote — gate, operator, safety devices, trenching, electrical supply and access integration listed line by line. No lump-sum allowances.
Installation
Footings and posts set, gate hung or tracked, conduit trenched and the 240 V supply run under our electrical licence, operator mounted and cabled, safety edges, photocells and loops fitted and wired.
Commissioning & handover
We set travel limits and force limits to the operator's specification, test every safety edge and photocell for correct stop-and-reverse behaviour, program remotes and credentials, show you the manual release, and hand over manuals and the electrical certification.
Optional maintenance
Gates live outdoors and cycle thousands of times a year. A service plan covers hinges, tracks and rollers, battery and safety-device testing, and force-limit re-checks — the difference between a 15-year gate and a five-year one.
Compliance & licensing
Gate automation sits across two licences and we hold both: NSW Security Master Licence 000108088 and NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 35018C. The 240 V supply to the operator is run and certified by our own electricians, with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) issued for the licensed electrical work and wiring designed with reference to the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules.
Entrapment protection is where automatic gates hurt people, so it's where we spend the commissioning time. Installations are designed with reference to relevant Australian gate-safety requirements: safety edges on closing and crushing points, photocells across the opening, force limits set and tested, and the manual release demonstrated at handover. We won't automate a gate whose condition makes it unsafe to power — we'll tell you what needs fixing first.
What moves the price
Every gate quote is itemised ex-GST — gate, operator, safety devices and electrical supply as separate lines. The main drivers:
- Gate weight and span — a 3 m residential swing leaf and an 8 m industrial cantilever need very different operators, footings and steel
- Operator duty cycle — a gate cycling ten times a day and a barrier cycling ten times an hour are not the same hardware
- Trenching and power — distance from the nearest supply, and whether the run crosses concrete, pavers or lawn
- Safety devices — the count of safety edges, photocells and induction loops the gate's geometry and use require
- Supply-and-automate versus automate-only — fabricating a new gate costs more than motorising a sound existing one
- Access integration — remotes only, or keypad, intercom, ANPR and access-control tie-ins
Automating an existing gate is often the best value — if your gate is square and swings freely, say so and we'll quote it both ways.

- Which gate type suits my driveway?
- Sliding or cantilever gates suit short or sloped driveways; swing gates suit level residential entries. Our showcase walks through each type — or tell us your site and we'll recommend.
- Can the gate open from a number plate or phone?
- Yes — gates can be triggered by ANPR, remote, intercom, keypad or mobile app, and tied into your access control.
- What drives the cost of an automatic gate?
- The gate itself, the operator's duty rating, trenching distance and the safety devices the site needs all move independently. Every quote is itemised ex-GST after a free site visit, so you can see each component and adjust the scope before committing.
- How long does installation take?
- Automating an existing gate is usually a day once power is available. A supplied-and-installed gate runs one to two days on site plus fabrication lead time — we confirm the schedule with the quote.
- Do I need approval to install a gate?
- On a private house lot, usually not — but a gate on a common-property driveway needs owners-corporation approval, and anything at the front boundary should keep sight lines to the footpath. We flag approval requirements at the site visit and provide drawings a strata committee can approve from.
- How often should an automatic gate be serviced?
- Annually for most residential gates; six-monthly for high-cycle commercial gates and barriers. A service covers the mechanicals, battery, safety-edge and photocell testing and a force-limit re-check, and keeps operator warranties intact.
- Can I fit a DIY gate-opener kit myself?
- The mechanics might bolt together, but the 240 V supply legally requires a licensed electrician in NSW, and an operator without properly set force limits and safety devices is a hazard to kids and pets. A licensed installation gets you certified power, tested entrapment protection and one contractor accountable for both.
